There will be at least five new faces when “Glee” returns with its sixth and final season next year. According to TVLine, the show is adding five new major characters, who are all sophomore students at McKinley High.
One of them is Roderick, “a true goober” with a voice like Otis Redding. Chubby and shy, his looks don’t match with his talent. There’s also a gay “football stud” named Spencer. The casting notice explains that “he’s post-Glee gay – no one messes with him about his sexuality because he will kick their asses if they do.”
Jane is described as being “righteous, ambitious and unconventionally pretty.” She’s funny because she doesn’t have much of a sense of humor, and wanted to join the Warblers but couldn’t because of her gender.
The fourth and fifth new characters are twins Mason and Madison, Cheerios members who are super-positive and extremely weird. Despite giving off a “gay vibe,” Mason is actually straight.
No words on who will portray these new characters.
“Glee” season 6 will premiere in midseason. Series creator Ryan Murphy said the show would be “back to its roots” in the final installment. “It’s getting back to what I was initially interested in with the show, which was arts in school. The last season is really about the importance of arts education in our high schools,” he gushed, “I think people will like it.”

Glum news for “Glee” — Britain’s High Court ruled Friday that the musical TV show must change its name because it breaches the trademark of a chain of comedy clubs.
A judge told Twentieth Century Fox that it had to re-name the series in Britain, though the order won’t take effect until an appeal has been heard.
The studio was sued by Comic Enterprises, which operates a string of venues called The Glee Club.
Judge Roger Wyand ruled in favor of Comic Enterprises in February, saying there was a “likelihood of confusion” between the two brands.
Fox said it would appeal, and argued that ordering a name change would be unnecessary, unfair and disproportionate.
But the judge concluded Friday that “Glee” had to go.
“I find it hard to believe that the cost of the re-titling and publicizing of the new name would be so prohibitive compared to the value of the series,” he said. “I was told many times during the course of the trial how this series is a ‘blockbuster.'”
The judge said it was possible the Court of Appeal would take a different view, so he put the re-naming order on hold until appeal judges have analyzed the case.
Comic Enterprises is also seeking damages. The judge said the final amount would be determined later, but ordered Twentieth Century Fox to make an interim payment of 100,000 pounds ($170,000).

Ryan Murphy has shared new scoop from a “Glee” Cory Monteith memorial episode. In an interview with Deadline, he reveals that it’s not easy for the writers to decide how they’re going to deal with his death.
The episode will address drug addiction issue, but Murphy says Monteith’s Finn Hudson won’t die of the said cause. “At one point, we were going to have his character die after an accidental drug overdose – that was something we had considered. But we have decided that we’re not going to have him pass from that,” he assures fans.
Refusing to spill more details, the series creator insists the episode “is about a celebration of that character’s life.” He explains, “That might be weird for some people, but it felt really exploitative to do it any other way.”
“There’s been tears on set. It’s been hard for a lot of people. But the really difficult thing is coming. We start shooting the memorial episode this week. We’re just now finishing it,” he goes on sharing. “I think it turned out to be a lovely tribute, and it’s a very heartfelt look at how young people grieve.”
Admitting “it’s been a really hard thing to write” since the actor’s sudden passing, he adds, “We loved Cory and we loved Finn and it feels like a huge loss and a huge heartache not to have either of them around. We’re trying to craft an episode that’s not just about us grieving but about a lot of the young fans grieving.”
Monteith died on July 13 of mixed-drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol, at the age of 31. Emmy Awards also plans a tribute to the late actor, although the show’s executive producer Ken Ehrlich admitted they had received more pressure considering the timing, with only two months left before the ceremony takes place on September 22.
