Glee: Dianna Agron on Racy GQ Photo Shoot: Sorry!

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Glee may not have aired a new episode this week, but it managed to make an assortment of headlines anyway. Just not the kind many associated with the show would like to see.

Soon after Lea Michele, Dianna Agron and Cory Monteith posed provocatively for the cover of GQ, an uproar ensued, led by the Parents Television Council, which said the spread “borders on pedophilia.” Katie Couric even addressed the pictorial on the CBS Evening News last night, saying:

“These very adult photos of young women who perform in a family show just seem so un-Glee-like.”

In a new blog post, Agron has now spoken out on the issue. She writes:

“If you are hurt or these photos make you uncomfortable, it was never our intention. And if your eight-year-old has a copy of our GQ cover in hand, again I am sorry. But I would have to ask, how on earth did it get there?”

She goes on to say the following:

“I understand that in today’s world of advanced technology, our kids can be subject to very adult material at the click of a button. But there are parental locks, and ways to get around this. I am twenty-four years old. I have been a pretty tame and easy-going girl my whole life. Nobody is perfect, and these photos do not represent who I am.

“I am also not the girl who rolls out of bed with flawless makeup and couture clothing. I am most comfortable with my hair thrown on top of my head, in sweats, laughing with my friends. Glee is a show that represents the underdogs, which is a feeling I have embraced much of my own life, and to those viewers, the photos in GQ don’t give them that same feeling. I understand completely.”

The CW Jumps on the ‘Glee’ Bandwagon

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

File this one under “What took them so long?”

The first ‘Glee‘ copycat is finally in the works. According to Deadline Hollywood, The CW is developing a “musical and dancing dramedy” called ‘Acting Out’ from ‘Bandslam’ writer/director Todd Graff.

102010 1747 TheCWJumpso1 The CW Jumps on the Glee Bandwagon

But it’s got a twist: the show is being described as ‘Glee’ combined with another unlikely pop cultural source — ‘Bad Santa.’ The series “explores relationships of counselors and staff of a down-on-its-luck summer camp whose new owner is a young curmudgeon in the vein of Billy Bob Thornton in ‘Bad Santa.’”

Graff’s familiar with both the performing arts and the summer camp territory. He wrote and directed the 2003 film ‘Camp,’ about a musical theater summer camp for Broadway wannabes, which starred a pre-’Up In the Air’/Oscar nomination Anna Kendrick.

It seems like a perfect fit for the younger-skewing CW, but a TV musical is hard to pull off. (See: ‘Cop Rock,’ ‘Viva Laughlin’) But Graff knows the subject matter well, so he could succeed. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Damon Albarn Says No to ‘Glee’ Borrowing His Tracks

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Gorillaz star Damon Albarn will never allow his songs to be covered in “Glee” because he’s convinced the popular show is a “very poor substitute” for real music. A number of pop superstars, including Madonna, Britney Spears and Lady GaGa, have all agreed to lend their back catalogs to the TV series, about a high school chorus group. But Albarn is adamant he never wants to hear his tracks showcased on “Glee“.

He tells the Associated Press, “We wouldn’t let that happen. And not that they’ve asked us because they haven’t, and now they definitely won’t. (Glee is) a very poor substitute for the real thing.” And the British musician admits he wasn’t impressed when the cast of “Glee” recently broke The Beatles’ record for more chart hits. He adds: “Those (Glee) songs won’t last like the Beatles by any stretch of their imagination. They’ll be forgotten in a few years’ time.”

Albarn isn’t the only rocker taking a stand against the musical series – Kings of Leon have also vowed to never let “Glee” bosses cover their hits.

Baz Luhrmann Would Love to Direct ‘Glee’

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Acclaimed musical-maker Baz Luhrmann has given “Glee” his seal of approval and asked TV bosses to let him direct an episode of the hit show. The Australian director, who won two Oscars for his 2001 movie musical “Moulin Rouge!”, admits he is a big fan of the high school singing show and is desperate to get involved.

And Luhrmann has even approached creator Ryan Murphy about taking over the set as a guest director. He tells MTV.com, “I’m a great fan of ‘Glee’. I spoke to Ryan. I tried to find a moment to do an (episode) with him. I’d love to do that. I think those kids are phenomenal. Just to do that every week, the discipline.”

“When I made Moulin Rouge! it was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding, a musical with contemporary tracks, that will never work.’ So if I could (direct an episode), I’d love to… I’d like to contribute to that.”

After an extravagant season 2 premiere and a Britney Spears episode, “Glee” is toning down the party with an emotional storyline. Not only Finn finds his belief through a toast but also Kurt is smacked with painful reality.

Finn has an existential crisis when he believes he sees the face of Jesus in his grilled cheese sandwich. Meanwhile, the rest of the kids rally around Kurt after he has a crisis of his own that leads to a larger discussion among the group about their own theology.

Among some of the songs which reportedly would be performed are R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion”, Joan Osborne’s “One of Us” and Barbra Streisand’s “Papa, Can You Hear Me?”. The first two songs would be Finn’s solo and an ensemble performance respectively.

“So cool,” Cory Monteith said of his solo. “I’ve been a huge Michael Stipe fan all my life.” He added, “We end the episode with ‘One of Us’. I think it’s been a long time since the song was done properly. I hope we do it well.”

Grilled Cheesus” airs October 5 on FOX.

Glee Finds Possible Boyfriend for Kurt

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

The actor who would possibly be Kurt’s first boyfriend on “Glee” has been cast. Darren Criss, the star of “Eastwick“, has scored a place on the musical series as a charismatic gay student from a rival Glee club called the Dalton Academy Warblers. Although his orientation has been made clear, the chance that he’s Kurt’s love interest is still blurry.

Creator Ryan Murphy said before that Kurt will get a boyfriend in season 2 and they would be a power couple. Many thought Chord Overstreet’s character Sam would be the one but Chris Colfer denied this, saying there’s no chemistry between Kurt and Sam in the first few episodes. The speculation has since been moved to Criss’ Blaine.

But according to EW’s source, Blaine will “maintain a strictly platonic friendship with McKinley High’s most out and proud pupil.” However, there is still room for it to change in the future, otherwise the show would have to cast another actor.

In anticipation of the “Britney/Brittany” episode of “Glee“, FOX has released a couple of clips that hopefully would attract viewers to its Britney Spears tribute. When Brittany and the gang try to convince Mr. Schuester to let them do a Britney Spears number, he is reluctant to go that edgy. But with the help of anesthesia, Brittany and Santana get to live their dream.

The Cheerio duo are doing a recreation of Britney and Madonna’s duet in “Me Against the Music”. Brittany will also do a solo on “I’m a Slave for You” while Rachel Berry tackles Britney’s very first hit “…Baby One More Time”. As an ensemble, they would do “Toxic” which full version has been teased by People.

The clips at the same time give the first look of John Stamos as Dr. Carl Howell who would put Emma and Will in an awkward situation. Will convinces Emma to bring Carl in to talk to the kids about dental hygiene but Will is left feeling worse than before.

Sharing more about his scenes, Stamos said, “My first day [on the show] was interesting, because they were shooting in the middle of one of the fantasies, and [I was shooting with] Heather Morris, who plays Brittany. I play a dentist [and] the gag was that I was in the dentist chair, and she was literally doing a lap dance on me in a mesh thing with diamonds. And that was my first day.”

“Britney/Brittany” airs September 28 on FOX.

Glee Season 2 Episode 2 Preview: Britney/Brittany

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Glee Season 2 Episode 2 : Somewhere at McKinley High’s cafeteria, Sue Sylvester is screaming in horror upon finding out that the “Glee” kids are doing Britney Spears’ music. The preview of episode “Britney/Brittany” reveals that the gang would do a seductive version of “Toxic” while Brittany gets in the mood of “I’m a Slave for You” and Rachel tackles “…Baby One More Time”.

092210 0840 GleeSeason21 Glee Season 2 Episode 2 Preview: Britney/Brittany

When Brittany and the gang try to convince Mr. Schuester to let them do a Britney Spears number, he is reluctant to go that edgy. Meanwhile, an insecure Will is curious about Emma’s new beau, Dr. Carl Howell (guest star John Stamos), so he convinces her to bring him in to talk to the kids about dental hygiene. While the dreamy doc inspires the girls to take their dental health more seriously, Will is left feeling worse than before.

“Through a special substance, I go under and have a couple of dream sequences – not only myself, but with Santana,” Heather Morris aka Brittany explained to TV Week. “A lot of it has to do with Will not allowing us to perform Britney Spears songs, because he doesn’t agree with what kind of entertainer she is, so it’s our fight to do Britney. But it’s not just us doing Britney in show choir; there are other sequences – it’s our homage to her.”

It is also confirmed that Brittany and the real Britney Spears would do a duet in “Me Against the Music”. Revealing what’s the deal with Sue not liking Britney, Jane Lynch said, “Sue Sylvester is of the opinion that Britney Spears is basically the anti-Christ. How does she put it? ‘A pop-culture provocateur and responsible for every out-of-control impulse ever created.’ So she fears that if Britney Spears’ music is played, it will create a sex riot – and it does.”

Britney/Brittany” airs September 28 on FOX.
